PITTSBURGH, Dec. 19 (UPI) — Nick Folk kicked a go-ahead, 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter Sunday and the New York Jets hung on for a 22-17 victory over Pittsburgh.
Mark Sanchez (19-of-29, 170 yards) drove the Jets 39 yards on nine plays to the Steelers’ 16-yard line, where Folk split the uprights with 10:07 remaining to put New York (10-4) up for good.
The Jets got two more points when Jason Taylor tackled Mewelde Moore in the end zone for a safety with 2:38 left, and New York’s defense held as Ben Roethlisberger missed two desperation passes into the end zone as time ran out, handing the Jets their first-ever victory in Pittsburgh.
Brad Smith returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for touchdown and Sanchez rushed for a game-tying TD in the third quarter for New York.
Roethlisberger finished 23-of-44 for 264 yards and a score for the Steelers (10-4), who fell into a first-place tie with Baltimore in the AFC North and had their four-game winning streak snapped.
