NEW YORK, N.Y. – Eight days after a sensational performance against the New York Jets, Denver linebacker Von Miller was fined Von Miller US$25,000 for roughing the passer in that game.

The rookie pass-rusher was confused Friday about which hit got him in trouble. He said his letter from the league noted he was getting docked for hitting quarterback Mark Sanchez in the chest, although he suspected the fine was actually for a late hit in which he struck Sanchez in the back.

“The hit that has all the controversy was the one where I hit him in the back a couple of seconds late,” Miller said. “On that play, my shoulder hit him in the back. I’m kind of foggy about which hit it was. I’m sure it’s one of them.

“I’m not saying that I didn’t commit a hit that I should be fined for, because I did get to him a couple of times, but that’s part of the game now,” Miller said. “It’s all about player safety and I don’t have anything to say about player safety. We’ve got to make adjustments to take the quarterback down in other ways.”

It’s Miller’s second infraction this month. He also was fined $15,000 for hitting Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer in the chin three weeks ago.

Miller’s was one of several fines the league handed down Friday.

San Francisco safety Dashon Goldson was fined $25,000 by the NFL on Friday for punching Arizona receiver Early Doucet in last Sunday’s game. Doucet was fined $10,000 for unnecessary roughness when he struck Goldson in the helmet area. Goldson then threw his punches.

At the end of a play early in the fourth quarter, Goldson was down away from the ball when he got blindsided and slapped on the back of the helmet by Doucet. Goldson jumped up, confronted him and both began swinging wildly. Goldson then threw a series of punches to Doucet’s facemask and received a 15-yard personal foul penalty before being ejected.

Seattle safety Kam Chancellor was fined $40,000 for unnecessary roughness against Rams tight end Lance Kendricks. The previous week, Chancellor was docked $20,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit against Baltimore wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

Philadelphia receiver-kick returner DeSean Jackson was fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct; he flipped the ball toward Giants defensive co-ordinator Perry Fewell after a 50-yard reception.

“When that incident happened I just thought that it was a hotly contested game at that moment and I just thought he made an error in judgment,” Fewell said. “He was just excited about the catch and I think he probably just did it by mistake. I don’t think he did anything intentionally.

“It shocked me. I was surprised by it, but it wasn’t about me and it wasn’t about him at that time.”

Eagles DT Trevor Laws was fined $7,500 for unnecessary roughness; he struck Giants QB Eli Manning late and away from the play after an Eagles interception.

Miami’s Tyrone Culver was fined $20,000 for unnecessary roughness for striking a defenceless player, Buffalo receiver Stevie Johnson, in the head and neck area.

Miller, the second overall draft pick had his best game yet in the Broncos’ 17-13 win over the Jets, making 10 tackles, nine solo, three tackles for loss, 1 1/2 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

Now he’s got a $25,000 fine to go with it.

“I mean, it stings, but it really doesn’t hurt that much, because I play the game for my teammates,” Miller said.

And some of those teammates were bemused by Miller’s latest run-in with the league’s disciplinarians.

“The league is so touchy-feely what we can and cannot do running full-speed, so there’s no use in me sitting here and going on a tantrum on what we can and can’t do,” safety Brian Dawkins said. “We just have to go out and play full-speed and whatever happens, happens.”

Miller said that while he’ll try to adjust his tackling technique, he won’t be holding back.

“I’m definitely going to keep playing with fanatical effort and relentless pursuit to the ball,” he said. “As far as hits … I’ve just got to make those adjustments so I don’t get fined.”

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Temperamental New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has been fined $75,000 for swearing at a fan during last week’s loss to the New England Patriots, the National Football League said on Monday.

The incident occurred at the end of the first half of New York‘s 37-16 defeat. As the Jets walked off the field to the locker room, a fan yelled at Ryan: “Rex, (Bill) Belichick is better than you.”

Ryan responded with a foul-mouthed reply that was caught on camera. He apologized the next day but the NFL took a dim view of his actions.

“I was emotional, it was an emotional time. I obviously made a mistake. I was full of emotion and just popped off,” Ryan said. “I apologize for it.”

The fine followed a $50,000 punishment levied on Ryan last February for making an obscene gesture at a fan at a mixed martial arts event in Florida that was also captured on camera and widely viewed on the internet.

The Jets team in recent years has also paid heavily for other misdoings, incurring $225,000 in fines.

Last season they were fined $100,000 after a tripping incident along the sidelines in which an assistant coach asked players to stand in a row to get in the way of opponents.

The year before, the NFL fined the Jets $125,000 for not reporting an injury to Brett Favre late in the 2008 season, including $25,000 apiece for general manager Mike Tannenbaum and then-coach Eric Mangini.

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr.
NEW YORK — Rex Ryan still couldn’t believe it, stunned even 12 hours after his Jets left Denver with a devastating loss.

Too many mistakes. Too many blown opportunities. And, now, there’s serious doubt whether this is even a playoff-caliber team.

“It was obviously a huge, huge loss for us,” Ryan said Friday.

After the Jets (5-5) allowed Tim Tebow to cap a 95-yard drive with a 20-yard touchdown run in the final minute of a 17-13 loss Thursday night, Ryan knew exactly what went wrong: pretty much everything.

“Obviously, we had some breakdowns in protections,” Ryan said during a conference call. “We had a turnover for a touchdown, we fumbled another special teams play on a kick return after we had a huge return, and then obviously, the 95-yard drive, which is, it’s still hard to really fathom. I mean, it really is.”

At this time last week, the Jets were riding a three-game winning streak and looking to establish themselves as one of the premier teams in a wide-open AFC. Consecutive losses to New England and Denver in five days have New York instead suddenly in the middle of a muddled postseason picture.

“Our playoffs start right now, there’s no question,” Ryan said. “We have to beat Buffalo. I don’t see any breathing room. We’ve already used that up.”

Ryan wishes his team could play its next game this Sunday, but the Jets must wait until Nov. 27, when they host the Bills. That might be a good thing, considering all New York needs to clean up.

“Every area of our team has certain issues,” Ryan acknowledged.

That was clear on the field in Denver as the Jets couldn’t put away a Broncos team that was outplayed for the first 55 minutes. Then came Tebow’s latest comeback, one that could have been quashed on the first play.

The Broncos quarterback threw an ill-advised pass to Eddie Royal in the end zone, and Jets safety Jim Leonhard got him — and then lost him as Royal broke free for an 8-yard gain. It was a bad omen for a defense that had played well up until that point, but appeared gassed as Tebow started running around the field.

“It’s very disappointing,” cornerback Darrelle Revis said after the game. “A lot of people are disappointed in here of how the outcome came for the game.”

New York still had a chance to make a huge play and go back home feeling fortunate to squeeze out a win. But on third-and-4 from the Jets 20, Tebow spotted New York dialing up its first all-out blitz of the night. So he took the snap, got past safety Eric Smith, cut back and then rumbled into the end zone.

“Hindsight behind 20-20, obviously, we would’ve done something, anything but that,” Ryan said of the decision to blitz. “I even told the defense before (the play), ‘This kid is not going to take the ball out of his hand. He is going to keep it in his hand,’ and that’s exactly what he did. He ended up just making a great play. None of us saw it coming.”

So Ryan and his staff will spend the next several days trying to turn things around in what has been a mediocre 10 games of a season that the Jets’ bold and brash coach promised would be special.

“When you look at it, are we going to change a few things? Yes, I think we need to,” he said. “I think we really need to look, study some things. I won’t get into the particulars, but I think we really do, and also learn from our past, how we did things, and really try to look at that and try to get better.”

On defense, that means being able to close out games and keep consistent pressure on the quarterback. On special teams, that means holding on to the ball and clamping down on opponents’ returns. And, on offense, it’s improving the running game — granted, Shonn Greene was injured early — and making sure quarterback Mark Sanchez starts to show signs of progress.

After the game, Sanchez took the blame, something he has done a lot lately. His poor pass to Plaxico Burress in the third quarter that Andre’ Goodman picked off and returned 26 yards for a touchdown tied the game at 10 and immediately swung the momentum in the Broncos’ favor at a time when the Jets could have taken total control.

“It’s an embarrassing play on my part,” Sanchez said. “I hurt the team and lost the game.”

Ryan acknowledged that it was a bad decision by Sanchez on the play, but refused to blame him for the loss.

“It absolutely doesn’t belong on Mark’s shoulders,” Ryan said. “He’s just a player. He’s a big piece of the puzzle, but it wasn’t all on Mark Sanchez.”

But Sanchez did little to assert himself as a game-changing leader, a criticism he has heard even while he helped take the Jets to the last two AFC title games. He has not regressed in his third season, but he has made little progress behind a spotty offensive line and with some new wide receivers. That has many fans and media members wondering if Sanchez will ever be a championship-caliber quarterback.

“I’m extremely confident,” Ryan said when asked of his trust in Sanchez. “We’ll go out there and play tomorrow. That’s how I feel about Mark. This is our quarterback. He’s going to be our quarterback for as long as I’m here, which I hope is a long, long time.”

While Ryan looks for answers, his belief in his team remains typically high. It might be desperate times for the Jets, but they’ve proven the last two seasons that’s when they’re at their very best. They’ve got six games now to save their season.

“We all have to get better,” Ryan said. “There’s no doubt. We all have to get better. Again, I’m confident that this group wants it in the worst way, and it’s a resilient group. We’ve done it before, and we just have to do it again.”

What do you guys think about this.

NEW YORK – Rex Ryan is teaming up with Adam Sandler for a new movie in which the Jets coach plays – get ready for this – a New England Patriots fan.

Sandler told NFL Network<cm eq="">s Rich Eisen for his podcast Thursday that Ryan is a Boston-based <cm dsq="">inexpensive<cm deq=""> lawyer in the still untitled movie. Sandler says Ryan was <cm dsq="">loose and funny<cm deq=""> about playing <cm dsq="">a mammoth Patriots fan<cm deq=""> who talks about Bill Belichick and Tom Brady – a detail that was written into the script for the Jets coach. </cm></cm></cm></cm></cm></cm></cm>

That<cm eq="">s sure to be a shocking sight for Jets fans. </cm>

Sandler, whose upcoming movie <cm dsq="">Jack and Jill<cm deq=""> will be in theaters on Nov. 11, is an avid Jets fan who has attended several games, and says Ryan is <cm dsq="">really cool<cm deq=""> and <cm dsq="">nailed<cm deq=""> the part.
</cm></cm></cm></cm></cm></cm>

By DENNIS WASZAK Jr., Associated Press

NEW YORK — The image on the television screen is still vividly etched in Vinny Testaverde’s mind.

The former New York Jets quarterback was in the trainer’s room on Sept. 11, 2001, and had trouble making sense of the gaping, smoke-spewing hole in one of the Twin Towers. As a guy who grew up on Long Island, Testaverde had seen the mighty and massive towers of the World Trade Center punctuate the New York City skyline all his life.

“We all thought it was a terrible accident, maybe a plane got out of control,” Testaverde recalled Tuesday.

But then punter Tom Tupa yelled over to him: “There’s another plane coming at the building!”

They were words Testaverde will never forget.

“That’s when you kind of started to realize,” he said, “that it was something more serious that was taking place.”

Herman Edwards, the Jets’ coach at the time, was in his office at the team’s facility at Hofstra University. He had gotten there early in the morning, as he always did, and was watching film when he realized something wasn’t right.

Even though it was his first season with the Jets, he had already noticed that he could see the flight patterns from nearby airports outside his office window. The skies had been silent for at least an hour that morning.

“It was puzzling to me, so I turned the television on,” Edwards said. “I saw the Trade Center and all of the sudden you see smoke coming out of them and I saw the second plane run into it.”

That was the beginning of a series of life-changing events for members of the Jets – and the entire country.

“It was one of those moments where you know exactly what you were doing and at exactly what time,” former center Kevin Mawae said. “It was a pretty surreal moment.”

As the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks approaches, several Jets players, coaches and executives have found themselves reflecting on what happened that day and during the weeks that followed.

“I can’t believe it happened,” former wide receiver Wayne Chrebet said. “We went through that time together and we kind of helped each other through it.”

Chrebet grew up in nearby Garfield, N.J., and later found out that the husband of one of his wife’s best friends was killed that day when one of the towers collapsed.

“To see what she went through was tough,” Chrebet said. “I know a lot of people went through that, but to have someone so close made it harder.”

Testaverde is from Elmont, N.Y., and he knew friends of friends and people from his family’s church who died. Later that week, he found out that a former high school teammate was among the victims.

“Being a New York guy and growing up on Long Island and having what I would say is just maybe a little bit closer connection than most of my teammates that were there at the time with me,” Testaverde said, “it just hit home a little bit more with me.”

When the team gathered for work again the day after the attacks, Edwards recognized that his players’ minds weren’t on football.

“Within 45 minutes of the practice, you knew it wasn’t going the right way, so we basically canceled practice and brought the players back in and told them that we had some options,” Edwards said. “There was really no way that this team, emotionally, was going to be able to play. And, I felt that way as a coach, too. I just felt it was too fast, too soon and we needed to reflect.”

That’s why Testaverde got in front of his teammates and told them that if the NFL decided that the games would go on that Sunday, he would not be joining the Jets on their flight to Oakland to play the Raiders.

“I think I recall the NFL commissioner saying that we should just go about our lives in a normal process,” Testaverde said. “For me, the normal process when you lose loved ones is you take time to grieve and take time away from some of the things you do on a daily basis and you pay tribute to those people that lost their lives. To me, that meant not playing football that week.”

Testaverde had discussed his decision with Edwards and then-general manager Terry Bradway, and Edwards gave the team the option of voting to play or not. So they took a secret ballot vote that morning.

“It was unanimous that we wouldn’t play,” Mawae said. “It was a decision that we felt was right. A lot of guys lived in the Garden City and Long Island area and a lot of those guys had neighbors that were affected or were killed.”

Bradway told owner Woody Johnson of the players’ decision and that they would forfeit the game if it was still going to be played. He then contacted then-Commissioner Paul Tagliabue’s office and let them know where the team stood. The NFL later postponed every game scheduled for that week.

About four days after the attacks, Testaverde went to the World Trade Center site and slowly made it past the armed guards and blockades, a grim setting he compared to “a war zone.”

“I just walked around and talked with the rescue workers and to see the sadness in their hearts and their voices – I’m getting chills just talking about it – it was a sad time,” Testaverde said. “It’s still obviously a very sad, very emotional thing that a lot of people have gone through.”

The rest of the team went to the site a week after the attacks and visited the firehouses, went to the World Trade Center site, spoke to police officers and went into Salvation Army tents to speak to some of the widows and children of people who lost loved ones.

Later that week – 12 days after the attacks – the Jets turned their minds back to football and beat the New England Patriots 10-3 in Foxborough, Mass.

“I know that Herm was the right guy dealing with that football team, in terms of their mental approach because it was very difficult for us to have any focus early on, especially the first week after and even the second week after,” Bradway said. “It was an unbelievable time and I was very proud of how our players responded from the beginning and all the way through. … We did feel a responsibility and a loyalty to the people of New York.”

That echoes what current coach Rex Ryan said Monday about feeling pressure to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the 10th anniversary of the attacks. It will be a moment of reflection for both the players and coaches who were with the team at the time, and those who represent the organization now.

“This tragic event never leaves me,” Edwards said. “For the rest of my life, I’ll always remember it. It’s the 10th year and we’re going to have a celebration of where we’ve come from and the things we’ve learned from it, but there are some people that never came back. I think that’s important. We need to always be solemn on that day.”

“I just walked around and talked with the rescue workers and to see the sadness in their hearts and their voices — I’m getting chills just talking about it — it was a sad time,” Testaverde said.

Later that week — 12 days after the attacks — the Jets turned their minds back to football and beat the New England Patriots 10-3 in Foxborough, Mass.

Continued…

That was the beginning of a series of life-changing events for members of the Jets — and the entire country.

That’s why Testaverde got in front of his mmates and told them that if the NFL decided that the games would go on that Sunday, he would not be joining the Jets on their flight to Oakland to play the Raiders.

The Jets kept undrafted free agent Nick Bellore, but released fellow free agent linebacker Matt Berning.

Bellore has been one of the surprises of the New York Jets camp. Bellore, 22, is a 6-foot-1, 250-pound inside linebacker.

Bellore started 52 games at CMU, tied for the most at the school. He ranks third at CMU with 472 total tackles, with three consecutive 100-tackle seasons.

Berning, 24, led CMU in tackles (102), sacks (4) and tackles for loss (13) in 2010.

At 6 p.m., July 25, Bellore’s phone started to ring. One of the first phone calls came from New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, who didn’t have to do much persuading.

Bellore also heard from coaches and GMs from Green Bay, Dallas, Jacksonville and San Diego. But Bellore had heard enough from Ryan to make his decision.

Bellore finished his CMU career with 472 tackles.

espn.com: Ryan called Bellore the biggest surprise on defense. The Jets are set at inside linebacker, with David Harris and Bart Scott, but the backup spots are up for grabs. Bellore’s main competition is Josh Mauga and Brashton Satele. In other words, he has a very good chance to make the team.

“(Coach Ryan) told me he’d give me the best opportunity to play,” Bellore said. “He painted a good picture for me.”

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Brodney Pool is back in the New York Jets’ secondary.

A person familiar with the deal says the Jets have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the veteran safety on Wednesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the deal.

Pool signed with the Jets lastoff-seasonafter spending his first five NFL seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Pool, 27, had 53 tackles, a sack and an interception in 15 games, including 12 starts, for the Jets.

He adds depth to a position that recently appeared a bit thin for New York. But the Jets re-signed Eric Smith earlier this week, and coach Rex Ryan said he will be one of the team’s starting safeties. Jim Leonhard, the other starter last season, is progressing from a broken leg suffered in December and is expected to be ready for the season opener.

Pool will get lots of playing time after coming on strong late last season, his first in Ryan’s aggressive defensive system. He also contributed on special teams.

The Jets also have Emanuel Cook and recently signed DaJuan Morgan, who previously played for Kansas City and Indianapolis, as safeties with NFL experience. James Ihedigbo, the last of the team’s three free-agent safeties, is still unsigned but could return.

There is the quick update of the day.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – It’s officially “Tone Time” again for the New York Jets.

Santonio Holmes signed his big contract Saturday to stay with the Jets and be the big playmaker he was for Mark Sanchez last season.

Holmes agreed to a five-year deal worth about US$50 million on Wednesday after New York made him its top priority once the free agency period began earlier this week.

New York also officially signed safety Eric Smith, kicker Nick Folk, offensive linemen Wayne Hunter and Robert Turner, as well as defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson, the team’s first-round pick, and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, the team’s fifth-rounder.

Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, New York’s first-round draft pick from Temple, has agreed to a four-year deal. He said on Twitter he was headed to the team’s facility in Florham Park, N.J., to sign his contract.

Holmes, 27, was acquired last off-season from Pittsburgh and had 52 catches for 746 yards and six touchdowns for the Jets after returning from a four-game suspension to start the season. He quickly developed a rapport with Sanchez and played key roles in three straight wins with big catches late in games last season.

“Good morning NY/NJ Jets fans. On the way to putting it in writing,” Holmes tweeted Saturday. “Tone Time!”

After agreeing with Holmes, the Jets turned their attention to trying to land free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha — who ended up going to Philadelphia. New York is expected to be looking at other free agents at the position, including Antonio Cromartie, who was solid a year ago in his first season with the Jets.

Finding a wide receiver to complement Holmes will also be on the agenda for New York. It appears the Jets will move on from free agent Braylon Edwards, and could be interested in Plaxico Burress, Randy Moss and Malcom Floyd, among others.

The Jets thought about bringing in Burress a few years ago, before the former Giants and Steelers star served 20 months in prison on a gun charge. Burress has visited with the Giants as well as the Steelers, his original team, during the past few days and could meet with the Jets at some point — but nothing was scheduled for Sunday.

Smith, a key backup in the secondary and a hard-hitting special teams player, signed a three-year deal. He has been with the Jets since they drafted him in the third round out of Michigan State in 2006.

“Excited to officially be a Jet again,” Smith said on Twitter. “Great players, great coaches and the BEST fans. Now on to the Super Bowl.”

Folk signed a one-year deal after going 30 of 39 on field-goal attempts last season, his first with the Jets after three years kicking for the Dallas Cowboys. He was also 2 for 3 on field goals in the post-season. He will compete with veteran kicker Nick Novak for the job.

Hunter, who filled in at right tackle when starter Damien Woody was injured late last season, signed a four-year deal. Agent Kenny Zuckerman told The Associated Press that “there was some other sincere interest from a few teams,” but Hunter chose to remain with the Jets because “Wayne and his family love the Jets organization.”

Turner, a versatile backup who can play all along the Jets’ line, was a restricted free agent who signed a one-year deal.

Wilkerson, the 30th overall pick in April, had 9 1-2 sacks last year for Temple and should immediately help the Jets as a defensive tackle or end. The six-foot-four, 315-pound Wilkerson grew up in nearby Linden, N.J.

“It’s official,” Wilkerson said on Twitter, “now im a Jet and happy to be apart of this great organization!!!!”

Kerley, the 153rd pick in the draft, signed a multiyear deal after catching 56 passes from Andy Dalton at TCU for 575 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He won the Mountain West Conference’s special teams player of the year award his last two seasons, and will likely help fill the void left when versatile wide receiver Brad Smith signed with Buffalo.

Their signings leave only one of the Jets’ six drafts picks — third-rounder Kenrick Ellis — not under contract.

The Jets report for training camp Sunday, with their first practice at their training facility in Florham Park, N.J., on Monday.

That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.

NEW YORK (AP)—It’s officially “Tone Time” again for the New York Jets.

Santonio Holmes(notes) signed his big contract Saturday to stay with the Jets and
be the big playmaker he was for Mark Sanchez(notes) last season.

Holmes agreed to a five-year deal worth about $50 million on Wednesday after
New York made him its top priority once the free agency period began earlier
this week.

New York also officially signed safety Eric Smith(notes), kicker Nick Folk(notes),
offensive linemen Wayne Hunter(notes) and Robert Turner(notes), as well as defensive lineman
Muhammad Wilkerson(notes), the team’s first-round pick, and wide receiver Jeremy
Kerley(notes), the team’s fifth-rounder.

Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, New York’s first-round draft pick from
Temple, has agreed to a four-year deal. He said on Twitter he was headed to the
team’s facility in Florham Park, N.J., to sign his contract.

Holmes, 27, was acquired last offseason from Pittsburgh and had 52 catches
for 746 yards and six touchdowns for the Jets after returning from a four-game
suspension to start the season. He quickly developed a rapport with Sanchez and
played key roles in three straight wins with big catches late in games last
season.

“Good morning NY/NJ Jets fans. On the way to putting it in writing,”
Holmes tweeted Saturday. “Tone Time!”

After agreeing with Holmes, the Jets turned their attention to trying to
land free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha(notes)—who ended up going to Philadelphia.
New York is expected to be looking at other free agents at the position,
including Antonio Cromartie(notes), who was solid a year ago in his first season with
the Jets.

Finding a wide receiver to complement Holmes will also be on the agenda for
New York. It appears the Jets will move on from free agent Braylon Edwards(notes), and
could be interested in Plaxico Burress(notes), Randy Moss(notes) and Malcom Floyd(notes), among
others.

The Jets thought about bringing in Burress a few years ago, before the
former Giants and Steelers star served 20 months in prison on a gun charge.
Burress has visited with the Giants as well as the Steelers, his original team,
during the past few days and could meet with the Jets at some point—but
nothing was scheduled for Sunday.

Smith, a key backup in the secondary and a hard-hitting special teams
player, signed a three-year deal. He has been with the Jets since they drafted
him in the third round out of Michigan State in 2006.

“Excited to officially be a Jet again,” Smith said on Twitter. “Great
players, great coaches and the BEST fans. Now on to the Super Bowl.”

Folk signed a one-year deal after going 30 of 39 on field-goal attempts last
season, his first with the Jets after three years kicking for the Dallas
Cowboys. He was also 2 for 3 on field goals in the postseason. He will compete
with veteran kicker Nick Novak(notes) for the job.

Hunter, who filled in at right tackle when starter Damien Woody(notes) was injured
late last season, signed a four-year deal. Agent Kenny Zuckerman told The
Associated Press that “there was some other sincere interest from a few
teams,” but Hunter chose to remain with the Jets because “Wayne and his family
love the Jets organization.”

Turner, a versatile backup who can play all along the Jets’ line, was a
restricted free agent who signed a one-year deal.

Wilkerson, the 30th overall pick in April, had 9 1/2 sacks last year for Temple
and should immediately help the Jets as a defensive tackle or end. The 6-foot-4,
315-pound Wilkerson grew up in nearby Linden, N.J.

“It’s official,” Wilkerson said on his Twitter page, “now im a Jet and
happy to be apart of this great organization!!!!”

Kerley, the 153rd pick in the draft, signed a multiyear deal after catching
56 passes from Andy Dalton(notes) at TCU for 575 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
He won the Mountain West Conference’s special teams player of the year award his
last two seasons, and will likely help fill the void left when versatile wide
receiver Brad Smith(notes) signed with Buffalo.

Their signings leave only one of the Jets’ six drafts picks—third-rounder
Kenrick Ellis(notes)—not under contract.

The Jets report for training camp Sunday, with their first practice at their
training facility in Florham Park, N.J., on Monday.
